Brilliant young American pianist Claire Huangci will christen the orchestra’s
new Steinway piano with a performance of one of the most popular of all piano concertos. Brahms’ masterpiece rounds out the concert program.

Members of our orchestra will be featured soloists in the Baroque music on the first half of the concert.  Beethoven’s lively second symphony hold’s pride of place after intermission in this stunning concert.

THE WILD, WILD WEST

Copland | Four Dance Episodes from “Rodeo”
E. Bernstein | True Grit Suite (from the 1969 film with John Wayne)
Copland | Billy the Kid Suite

Co-produced by the Columbus Public Library and the Columbus Museum, this concert let’s you and your children and grandchildren experience life in the old West as expressed through music in concert. There’s life on a ranch, what it feels like to be Billy the Kid, and the grittiest grit of “True Grit”. The afternoon includes pre-concert activities and general fun for all.

Are four guitars better than one…I’ll say! Rodrigo’s tuneful concerto is flanked by the greatest music for strings ever written and Tchaikovsky’s moving and profound “Pathetique” symphony.


Fire&RainSMFamily Pops Series

FIRE & RAIN: A SYMPHONIC EVENING OF FOLK ROCK CLASSICS

Featuring Swearingen and Kelli

It’s a walk down memory lane featuring a healthy dose of folk rock classics. Songs by James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Simon & Garfunkel, and The Eagles (to name only a few) all wonderfully performed by AJ Swearingen and Jayme Kelli. This is the greatest popular music ever!

Prokofiev | Symphony No. 7

This concert features the last compositions of two of the greatest composers of the 20th century, Bartok’s beautiful third piano concerto and Prokofiev’s touching final symphony. The evening begins with a lyrical first statement from a new voice, American composer Samuel Barber.

You have not really heard the saxophone until you have heard it played by Joe Girard. This amazingly talented member of the Donald Sinta Saxophone Quartet will be featured in works by Glazunov and Ibert.  Masterpieces by Falla and Stravinsky complete the concert program.

Piazzolla and Rachmaninoff will have your toes tappin’. Bruch’s well-known violin concerto will give you a chance to rest between dances.

      We are so excited that you are interested in our Valentine’s Day performance of “Fire & Rain” with Swearingen and Kelli with the CSO. Our single tickets officially go on sale July 11th. We are taking Season Ticket orders at the moment. I will take down your information and contact you as soon as the single ticket sales are available. There should be no problem for you to get tickets for this event (I will see to it!) so you can go ahead and make your hotel reservations. Let me know if you have any questions about hotels in the area or other places to visit while in town.
