Tian Xu Watson_photoChinese-born violinist Tian Xu Watson began playing the violin at the age of six. A recent graduate of the world renowned Eastman School of Music, Ms. Xu Watson received her Master’s Degree in Violin Performance, the prestigious Performer’s Certificate and a Certificate for College/Community School Music Teaching. At Eastman, Ms. Xu Watson was appointed as Teaching Assistant for Prof. Mikhail Kopelman with whom she studied. She also served as the Violin Teaching Assistant for Eastman’s Music Education Department, and for the Chair of the Eastman Community Music School. Her responsibilities with the community music school included co-teaching violin lessons and coaching chamber ensembles. Ms. Xu Watson’s previous teachers include Zuo Jun, Weigang Li, and Sergiu Schwartz.

Ms. Xu Watson is currently a member of Columbus Symphony Orchestra (GA).     She also performs chamber music regularly in the Georgia and Alabama areas. Ms. Xu Watson represented the Columbus Symphony Orchestra for the Up-Close Program as the violin performer and instructor, visiting schools in Columbus area such as Franklin, Forest, and Dexter Elementary Schools. She also performed at and visited schools in Columbus area as a presenter for the Empowered Youth of Columbus. Additionally, Ms. Xu Watson represented LaGrange Symphony Orchestra’s Violin Quartet as the Principle Violin in the May 2016 School Show Program. The Quartet also represented LaGrange Symphony Orchestra at the annual Sip and Shop Evening as chamber-musicians-in-residence. Ms. Xu Watson’s most recent concert appearances include a solo recital with pianist Beibei Lin on the ‘A Little Lunch Music’ recital series at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, Auburn University, as well as chamber and orchestra performances in four different programs for the 45th International Double Reed Society Conference. Previous teaching experience for Ms. Xu Watson’s includes the Wiliam Pu Academy in Atlanta, GA and the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra’s Educational Initiative. She also taught as an instructor of violin for the Preparatory Division at The Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University.

Ms. Xu Watson was the top prize winner in multiple national competitions in China, including Shanghai Youth Violin Invitation Competition, Zhejiang Solo Instrument Competition, Shanghai Instrument Exhibition Violin Competition, and so on. She has also received laureations in other national and international competitions such as Washington International String Competition, MTNA, and Lagrange Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Having given numerous solo recitals, chamber concerts and orchestral performances in Singapore, China and USA, Ms. Xu Watson has maintained both national and international visibility.
