Barbara Cook, Oboe
Barbara Goorevitch Cook earned a B.A., summa cum laude, in Music Performance from UCLA where she won prizes in both the Atwater Kent and Frank Sinatra Musical Performance Awards solo competitions. She continued her studies with Laila Storch of Seattle’s Soni Ventorum Quintet and the late Louis Rosenblatt of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ms. Cook spent twenty-five years as a Senior Learning Designer for Delta Air Lines, Inc., leaving in 2008 to devote herself full-time to teaching privately and working as a free-lance oboist and chamber musician. Ms. Cook has performed with orchestras throughout California, Oregon, Colorado, Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia, and with the l’Orchestra dell’International Chamber Ensemble in Rome, Italy. When she is not making reeds, she spends her free hours jogging, hiking and traveling the world.
