Ed Nicholson, Principal Trombone
Ed Nicholson is a freelance trombonist who resides in Atlanta and has performed extensively on alto, tenor, and bass trombone with most professional orchestras in the Southeast. These include the Alabama Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Augusta Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, Carroll Symphony, John’s Creek Symphony, Columbus Symphony, Greenville Symphony, Georgia Symphony, Gwinnett Philharmonic, Hilton Head Symphony, Macon Symphony, the North Carolina Symphony, Savannah Philharmonic, and the Savannah Symphony.
Mr. Nicholson has served as Acting Principal Trombonist with the Atlanta Symphony and the Chattanooga Symphony, interim 2nd trombonist in the Atlanta Symphony for the 2010 season, as well as bass trombonist with the Macon Symphony. He has also been an invited participant at the Grand Teton Music Festival for ten years and has performed at the Breckenridge (CO) Music Festival. Before moving to Atlanta in 1988, Mr. Nicholson was principal trombonist with the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic for seven years.
Mr. Nicholson is currently trombonist with the Atlanta Opera, and Principal Trombonist with the Columbus Symphony. A graduate of the University of North Texas, Mr. Nicholson is Trombone Instructor at Emory University, the Paideia School, and teaches a private studio.
