Jihoon Kim, Cello

Jihoon Kim is a nineteen-year-old cellist from Atlanta, Georgia. He began playing the cello at 13 and studied privately in high school. He studied with Dona Vellek, Daniel Laufer, David Hancock, and currently with Wendy Warner at the Schwob School of Music in Columbus State University. Kim has attended summer music camps at Brevard Music Center, Governor Honors Program, MasterWorks Festival, Charleston Chamber Music Festival and Franklin Pond Chamber Music. He has performed in masterclasses for Wendy Warner, Lynn Harrell, and Gabriel Martins. 

He received 2nd prize of the DeKalb Concerto Competition and performed Elgar’s Cello Concerto with the DeKalb Symphony. Jihoon was also a finalist in the Brevard Music Center’s Concerto Competition. As a member of the Atlas Trio, he won 2nd prize at the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. Most recently, Jihoon is currently a member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Columbus, GA and a member of the Vargas Foundation as an Artist Ambassador. Jihoon plays a cello made by master violin-maker David Caron and a bow made by Howard Green.
